Numerous Suspended Abstract forms in plywood and acrylic sheet

In creating these mobiles, multiple aluminium offcuts have been crafted into organic shapes using electric shears. Each piece is then rolled between a variety of wheel profiles to develop distinct language and form. The vibrant hues of pure acrylic, shaped with a band saw, create a striking dialogue of colour. To enhance the scale, there is an additional palette of vibrant plywood outlines to expand the visual experience.

About the Artist

Jason Hartcup

My first major sculptural influence when I enrolled at St. Martins School of Art was the American sculptor Alexander Calder. What inspired and captured my imagination was the sheer scale and the movement of his large sculpture mobiles. Many subsequent influences resulted in a journey of materials, treatments and language. It has been surprising to revisit an earlier fascination with mobiles. Decades later my practice invites working with colours, acrylics and reflective materials. Acland Court provides a unique viewing opportunity for suspending mobiles in natural light.
